About the Chorus Program

Women's Glee (9th - 12th)

Women's Glee is designed for the first year high school chorus singer. The purpose of this course is to lay the foundation for the beginning female choral singers and an opportunity to apply proper vocal technique and develop choral musicianship and aesthetic awareness. It will include varied choral literature through which form, style, music history and music theory are taught; it develops aesthetic awareness. Rehearsals and performances are required beyond the school day during concert seasons. Many students will use this class to earn their fine arts credit towards graduation. Materials and uniform are required for this class.

 

Prerequisites: NONE

Men's Choir (9th - 12th)

The purpose of this course is to provide beginning and intermediate male choral singers an opportunity to apply proper vocal technique and develop choral musicianship and aesthetic awareness. It will include varied choral literature through which form, style, music history and music theory are taught; it develops aesthetic awareness. Rehearsals and performances are required beyond the school day during concert seasons. Many students will use this class to earn their fine arts credit towards graduation. Materials and uniform are required for this class. ere are no prerequisites for this class.

 

Prerequisites: NONE

Treble Choir (9th - 12th)

The purpose of this course is to enable intermediate level choral singers to develop proficient individual and ensemble skills in choral performance through preparation of varied high school literature. Emphasis will be placed on healthy and expressive singing, accurate interpretation of notation, and development of critical and aesthetic response to music. It will include varied choral literature through which form, style, music history and music theory are taught; it develops aesthetic awareness. Rehearsals and performances are required beyond the school day during concert seasons. Materials and uniform are required for this class. Freshman may be placed in this class based on middle school director's recommendation and an audition with BRHS chorus director.

Prerequisite: Audition, 1 year of Women’s Glee or High School Chorus Experience; BRHS Chorus Director Placement.*Incoming Freshman may audition for this choir if they so choose. Must have current middle school chorus director recommendation. 

Women's Chorale (10th - 12th)

The purpose of this course is to enable advanced female choral singers to develop individual and ensemble skills in choral performance through preparation of varied high school literature. Emphasis will be placed on healthy and expressive singing, accurate interpretation of notation, and development of critical and aesthetic response to music. Rehearsals and performances are required beyond the school day several times throughout the year. Students will be expected to practice outside of class time and to attend all required events. A minimum GPA of 2.0 must be maintained. Materials and uniform are required for this class.

Prerequisite: Audition; Minimum of 1 year in Women’s Glee or High School level choral experience, BRHS Choral Director Placement Only.

River Rhapsody (10th - 12th)

The purpose of this course is to provide advanced choral singers with the opportunity for high level performances in a vocal ensemble settings through the study of appropriate vocal literature. Performance techniques, music knowledge, critical analysis, and aesthetic responses are emphasized. Rehearsals and performances are required beyond the school day several times throughout the year. Students will be expected to practice outside of class time and to attend all required events. A minimum GPA of 2.0 must be maintained. Materials and uniform are required for this class.

 

Prerequisite: Audition; Men: Minimum one year music (band, chorus, or orchestra) Women: Minimum one year of High School Choral Experience; BRHS Choral Director Placement Only.
