Mr. Thomas Desmond

Director of Choral Activities

Mr. Desmond currently serves as the Director of Choral Activities at Braden River High School in Bradenton, Florida. From 2012 to 2016, he served as the Director of Choral Activities at Eisenhower Middle School in Hillsborough County.

He holds a Master of Music Education from the Florida State University and a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from the University of South Florida. While a student at the University of South Florida he was a recipient of numerous talent grants and scholarships including the Nancy Kay Mayo Choral Music Award.

Choirs under his direction consistently receive Superior ratings at District and State Performance Assessments. Students under his direction are consistently selected to State and District Honor choirs. During the 2019-2020 school year, he was selected as Teacher of the Year at Braden River High School and was awarded the Congressional Teacher Award for Florida's 16th Congressional District. 

He is an active member of the National Association for Music Educations, Florida Vocal Association, Florida Music Educators Association, the Manatee Arts Education Council and the American Choral Directors Association. He has served on the State Board for the Florida Vocal Association as the District 11 Chairman. He currently serves as the coordinator for the Manasota High School Honor Choir and the Florida All-State TTBB Choir.

Dr. Charles Turon

Collabrative Pianist

Dr. Turon has been teaching piano for forty years, with over thirty-five years of experience at the college level. He retired from the State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota in 2016 at the rank of full professor.

At SCF he taught piano lessons at all levels, Class Piano, freshman and sophomore level Music Theory/Ear Training, Music Appreciation, and Music History and Literature. He also served as staff accompanist and held several administrative positions, including Music Program Manager, Chair of the Department of Fine and Performing Arts, and Coordinator of Keyboard Studies and Music Theory.

Piano students have won competitions at the local, district, and state level, including the Florida State College Activities Association Young Artist Scholarship Award, the District Concerto competition of the Florida State Music Teachers Association, and the Steinway Society of Sarasota Scholarship Award. Former students have successfully transferred to such schools as

  • The Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London, England

  • The Catholic University of America

  • Florida State University

  • The University of Florida.
